If you like nature and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city, Tenerife is your perfect destination. But inside Tenerife you will find hundreds of places with their special appeal. Today we present you a rural paradise, Güímar.
In Güímar you will have options to choose different plans, perfect to do as a family, alone or accompanied.
Do you know the windows of Güímar?
Although it is a path suitable for adventurers, it is a private property, so by walking it you can be accused of a crime. However, it can be seen perfectly without having to walk it. It is about small windows carved out of the rock, by our ancestors, through a superhuman effort. Elevated to more than 1000 meters above sea level. Adjacent to an old water gallery, they were a natural light source.
But if you are attracted to the native flora we recommend you to make the route through the Barranco de Badajoz. Its name comes from the conqueror Juan de Badajoz, who received land in this area. The ravine is dyed with a great variety of autochthonous flora, as we have said before. In it you will find laurisilva, ferns, cat’s tail, and numerous fruit trees, where different species of birds live.
On the other hand, without going too far, you can also enjoy the Ethnographic Park “The Pyramids of Güímar”. The origin of this Park was the conservation and study of these stepped pyramids. With an area of 64,000 m2, it consists of several open-air routes, a botanical garden, a museum and an auditorium. Throughout the tour, you can investigate the origin and the different theories of the creation of these pyramidal structures.
Although, if what you like most is the sea, you can also enjoy it without leaving the municipality. The coastal area, known as Puerto de Güímar, has beautiful black sand beaches. In addition to a large port, where you can perform various recreational activities such as fishing on the high seas or boat trips.
Also, within the borders of the municipality there are numerous restaurants specialized in typical Canarian food. Without forgetting the drink, since Güímar has excellent wine harvests every year.
